Walter Kim, like many others, wrote his books without ever expecting them to be made into a movie.

“It is like finding a lottery ticket under the lottery basket,” Kirn said.

Kirn wrote this book based on one conversation that he had with a flight attendant. This book, “Up in the Air,” turned into a film, a complex story that takes place where the main character, Ryan Bingham, tries to find his purpose in his life.

Bingham, a career transition career counselor, played by George Clooney, flies around the world to try to get one million frequent flyer miles for the Jason Reitman film adaptation before his boss returns from vacation, finds his letter of resignation and cancels Bingham's company credit card.

Walter felt very pleased that someone like George Clooney is playing the part.
“He is the only actor that could play the role of Ryan Bingham, even though, he is an older person,” Walter said. “His performance is brillant and he does not have any special disability.”

Basically all of the characters came from the conversation that Walter had with the flight attendant.

“I knew about him and the flight attendant’s family,” Walter said.

He even expressed his deep emotions about the conversation with the flight attendant.
“It had inspired me to attend in communicating with other strangers,” he said.

One message that Walter said he wanted to be clear in the movie was to ask yourself where you are going and why you want to go there.

He also said that in the future “this movie is a movie that everyone would want to watch over and over because it is excited, fun,and dramatic.”
