The Warriors lost their two goal lead in the last two minutes of the third period as the No. 9-ranked Boston Terriers quickly evened the score in an eventual 4-4 tie.
Both teams went scoreless in the first period and were neck-and-neck at even strength. About a minute into the second period, forward Julie Hebert put the Warriors on the scoreboard with a goal that beat Boston goalie Alisa Fromkin from the blue line.
Katrina Protopapas scored her first career power play that trickled in after a funny bounce midway through the second period. Jaclyn Stapleton was also a goal scorer for the Warriors. She put her team up two goals in the second.
The Terriers struck back late in the second period with a goal by Jill Cardella, which made it a one goal game. The intensity level was high for both teams, and some aggression took place with a few scrums in front of both nets.
In the third period Protopapas scored her second goal that put WSU up two. With the man advantage, Boston’s Melissa Anderson and Tara Watchorn, scored two goals in 1:21 with an extra attacker and tied the game to send it to overtime.
The Warriors will prepare to play Boston again Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. "We want to play 60 minutes instead of playing 58 minutes," coach Jim Fetter said.
