Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center announced that the fourth annual Warrior Games will run April 12-16 for Wayne State students.

The Warrior Games is a week of student-spirited competition, beginning with table tennis matches held in the Student Center Building Underground from 2-5 p.m., high ropes courses from 3-6 p.m. and ultimate Frisbee from 7-10 p.m. in the Mort Harris RFC.

All WSU students and student organizations are eligible for the free competitions.  Events such as dunk tank, basketball tournament, kickball, team window painting, Wii bowling, WSU Trivia and many more games will be held this week. Teams can be formed with as few as six members.

Sports Coordinator Jeff Taylor and Dan Ngoyi scheduled each sports event dates and times with the help of Assistant Director Jovita Scrogin and Chris Nolan, director of campus recreation.

“The warrior games were established to build Wayne State campus life,” Taylor said.
Each event has first, second and third place winners. The winners are awarded with prizes.

The overall first place winner receives a trophy captured on display at the front desk of Mort Harris RFC.

The last championship trophy was awarded to the Japanathers in 2009, and in 2008 to Pi Kappa Alpha.  The first to win the warrior games was 2007 champions Sigma Pi. Never has a team repeated as champions.

“With a lot of teams competing this year, it would be hard for a team to repeat. But, it could happen,” Taylor said.

Over the past three years, the best competition of the Warrior Games is dodgeball.
“Because it’s fun and competitive,” Taylor said.

He predicts to win the volleyball tournament this year. The past two years, his team has been runner-up in the volleyball tournament.
“Hopefully, we will be able to win this year,” Taylor said.
