In only its second year in existence at Wayne State, the women’s club basketball team is headed to the national tournament in Nashville, Tennessee. After their victory at the National Campus Championship Series (NCCS) Regional Basketball Championship held at Western Michigan University, the team is looking forward to taking home the national title in Tennessee this April.

In the preseason, Wayne State women’s basketball coach Gloria Bradley stated this year’s team will be able to play with a much faster tempo by having more athletes and more depth. When her team came out in the second half of the season opener looking flat, she put that speed on display.
In the end, the Warriors couldn’t create one more scoring opportunity on their final possession and lost their home opener to Southern indiana, 69-68, Sunday afternoon.

The Wayne State softball team had a very successful outing in the Catabwa Invitational. After winning seven games from Feb. 26-28, WSU jumped 15 spots in the national ranking, going from No. 20 to No. 5.

2010 off to a rocky start
The Wayne State Women’s basketball team hasn’t won a game since last year. Sure, that may only be a couple weeks past, but with the three games they dropped to start off 2010, including Saturday’s 70-56 setback at Hillsdale, it’s sunk their record to a GLIAC worst 2-11 overall.
