Wayne State's dance crew, Gold N' Envy, won the competiton for the second year in a row.

The Showdown 3 was a real showdown as dance groups across the metro Detroit area competed for bragging rights and a cash prize of $500 at Wayne State in the Community Arts Auditorium Saturday.

Hosted by Hot 102.7 radio personality Lt. Dre, the crowd was excited and waiting for a show full of flips, kicks and wild body spasms; things ordinary to these out of the ordinary events.

The groups that participated were Urban Dreams and Elite from Michigan State University; Redemption from Western Michigan University; Diversion from Eastern Michigan; Twisted and Maximum Energy from Detroit, and N. V. R. Flo from The University of Michigan.

Wayne State’s own Gold 'n' Envy, the winner of last’s year competition, were also present.

Sponsored by Sharon Freed and promoted by Ira Smith, the event was held to bring groups together that have a love for dance.

"I put this event on to invite all of the surrounding dance groups to showcase their talents,” Smith said.

“This is my third year promoting the showdown and it's getting bigger and better every year."

DJ Los got the crowd hype before the start of the show while Ltd. Dre kept everyone laughing with cheesy jokes and impromptu dance contests featuring the young and the seasoned.

Teams, like The University of Michigan’s N. V. R. Flo, traveled from all over to compete in dance competitions throughout the state.

"We live for dance competitions like this,” said Roland Frohman, 21.

“It's always a lot of fun and high energy and Wayne State always gives us a warm welcome."

In the spirit of Halloween, most of the dance groups had Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as a theme, but the top choice song to dance to that got the crowd amped no matter how many times it was played was Soulja Boy’s "She got a Dunk."

With its flashy, eye-popping costumes and spins and turns, Gold 'n' Envy retained its title as the winner.
