Rap-rock superstar Kid Rock and his clothing line Made in Detroit have joined with Wayne State to launch a scholarship program for music students at the university.

In their first steps to achieving this goal, Rock and WSU plan to create and sell 2,500 t-shirts with the university name and the Made in Detroit logo in order to raise $25,000
for the scholarship.

The t-shirts are priced from $17.99 to $24.99 and are available at Barnes and Nobles on the corner of Cass and Warren Avenues.

Francine Wunder, a university spokesperson, is enthusiastic about the endeavor.

"I feel this scholarship will shine a very positive light on the university, and it will inspire students to go after their dreams," she said.

Pre-psychology major Egypt Cole was also excited about the scholarship and hoped that it helped the university music students.

"I hope that students will purchase these t-shirts because if the scholarship is successful, it will provide so many opportunities for aspiring musicians," she said.

"It also helps that the person who created the scholarship is a well known artist from the Detroit area."

Pre-biological sciences major Shantinique Kirk believed that Rock's help with the scholarship was testament to his dedication to the Detroit music scene.

"This scholarship will not only help students financially, but it will illustrate to them that once you do become successful, you have to give back to the community that helped you in the first place," she said.
