The Student Center Building underwent colorful renovations during the five-day Paint-A-Window Contest that began on Oct. 6.
Several Wayne State University organizations participated in the event. Circle K International, a student-led service organization, was one of the participating groups. Gaurav Mukhi, the CKI membership development chair, managed the window painting for the organization.
Members of the Ethiopian Student Alliance for Education were elated to win first place in the competition. Their painting featured the Warriors’ football field with an overwhelmingly full crowd of Wayne State fans. An anonymous football player is portrayed menacingly in the painting, in front of a background of dark skies and thunderous lightening.
Freshman Andrew Smith, 17, was viewing the paintings on the windows of the Student Center.
“These paintings are pretty nice. I really like this one,” said Smith, pointing to the painting by the ESAE.
“But all of them are pretty good,” continued Smith, nodding approvingly.
Freshman Riggs Webb, 18, was quite amused with the painting completed by Delta Zeta, one of WSU’s sororities. The painting depicted a frog wearing a homecoming crown and riding in a car, which was encrypted with the Warrior “W.” On the left side of the painting was the Delta Zeta symbol, and on the right side were the words, “Run ‘em down Warriors!”
“I love the little car. It reminds me of my car,” Webb said laughing. “I don’t know if I like the frog that much, but the car is amazing.”
The car must have impressed many spectators because its presence in the painting helped Delta Zeta earn a second-place ribbon.
Other organizations, such as the Student Council Program Board, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Kappa Delta, also participated. They were also winners in the paint-a-window contest.
Kappa Delta, another WSU sorority, won honorable mention. Its painting also showed a view of the Warriors’ football field. The phrases, “Celebrating 90 years of Athletics” and “Go Wayne State Warriors!” decorated the mini mural.
Freshman Victor Roman, 18, a jokingly said, “I love how you can see McDonald’s through the window behind the painting.
“I hope we win the homecoming game,” Roman continued, laughing. “Who knows, maybe McDonald’s will give us free food. I doubt it, though.”
